Provider Billing in Louisiana
ACT 453 from the 2010 Louisiana Legislative Session, requires all noncontracted, facility-based physicians to display specific information related to balance billing on patient bills, effective July 1, 2011. Click HERE to see full text of this Act.

LMGMA Billing Guide The LMGMA Guide assists in understanding Provider responsibilities relative to Patient Billing and Collections under Louisiana Law. Also known as the Patient Friendly Billing legislation, this law which became effective Jan. 1, 2004, addresses the issue of "balanced billing", when healthcare providers bill for the balance of a bill for care rendered by the provider and not paid for by insurer health benefits.
