Louisiana Medical Practice Managers Association was formed in 1972, and incorporated with the Louisiana Secretary of State.
Bylaws were created in 1992.
In 1994, the Louisiana Medical Practice Managers Association was the name of our organization. The Board of Directors created and implemented the Mission Statement, Goals, and Vision 2000, and established a State Office. The following year, Suzie Smith was named Executive Director.
This board established three goals, shown below. Through subsequent years, following the lead of our national MGMA, the association name was changed three more times: to Louisiana Medical Group Managers Association (LMGMA), and then to Louisiana Medical Group Management Association, and to its current name of MGMA-Louisiana.
Three primary goals exist to accomplish the Mission and Vision of the Louisiana Medical Practice Managers Association (LMPMA):
- Education and Professional Growth of Members: The LMPMA encourages and facilitates educational development of its membership in the field of medical practice management through the following: Annual conferences, Newsletters, Specific educational programs, Member networking opportunities, and other activities.
- Legislative Review and Advocacy Efforts: Legislative Alert Newsletter, Monitoring of federal and state legislative activity, Provision of relevant material to members regarding pending legislation so that elected officials can be contacted, and Other activities.
- Assure Organizational Viability: Ensure bylaws and membership criteria accurately reflect medical practice trends and permit growth in desired membership; Ensure appropriate financial management and control to assure solvency; Continually adapt to medical practice organizational trends.
